Inspirational Video

When I was growing up, mom used to say, “A man complained because he had no shoes, until he met a man who had no feet.” I still remember it. And I repeated it to my kids more than once.

We all have challenges. Most of them are not insurmountable. It may seem easy to slip into self-pity, but I hope you don’t. Years ago, I met a man who had no arms. He did everything with his feet, including playing the guitar. He was amazing. He had a “can do” attitude. It would have been easy for him to give in to his disability, but he chose to inspire others.

Watch the video to virtually meet another man who is truly inspirational.

Cell Phone Dangers

It seems like everyone today has a cell phone. And everywhere I look, people are talking on their cell. They’re ahead of me in the checkout line and sitting behind me at the restaurant. I remember years ago, when you passed someone who was talking, you assumed they were talking to themselves. Today, you just assume they’re on a cell phone. Some people keep their cell phone attached to their ear with a Bluetooth or ear bud. And some people are downright rude, talking on their cell when they should be talking to the people they’re with.

I finally got a cell phone a few years ago. Since I drive from Ohio to Florida and back to Ohio twice a year, I decided I needed one for an emergency. I worried that eventually an emergency would be calling Pizza Hut on the way home, so the pizza would be hot when I arrived. But, that hasn’t been the case. I really only use my cell for short calls – one or two minutes – And probably no more than a couple times a month. And it’s come in handy a few times when I was running late.

I don’t want to use my cell phone any more than that because I’m not convinced that they’re safe. There are arguments both ways, but until I’m convinced, I’ll just keep mine for an emergency.

And now, I’m learning that it’s not JUST cell phones. It’s the cell phone towers, along with all the other electronics that are a part of our everyday lives.

I ran across these videos on Google that were very enlightening – And scary . . .

What Does It Mean To Be Green?

Kermit the Frog used to sing “It isn’t easy being green.” But, he was singing from a very personal viewpoint. Today, everyone is talking about being green. But, what does it mean. Probably, different things to different people.

For every product you use around the house, there’s a green substitute. I’m finding products that work as well – or better – than my old Clorox, Pinesol and Tide. Every time I find a non-toxic cleaner, I take another step toward “living green.” I’m not only feeling better about doing the right thing for my family and the planet, I’m really feeling better! I didn’t even realize how those old cleaners were affecting me – itchy, stuffed up, sneezing and sometimes worse. And who knows what the long term effects will be? I’m no longer willing to be part of that test group.

Green Goes with Everything by Sloan Barnett is a common sense approach to making these changes.

Sloan is a Today Show contributor, the Green Editor for KNTV in San Francisco, a wife and mother. When her young son was developing asthma, she found the cause to be the cleaners she was using. Watch the video below to hear Sloan’s story . . .
