Super Bowl Party Tips

Super Bowl XLVIIt’s estimated that 155,000,000,0000 calories will be consumed on Super Bowl Sunday.

Courtyard by Marriott is the official hotel sponsor of the NFL. The results of their Super Bowl Study were not so surprising. If you want your party to be a success, just stick with the basics …

  • 61% of U.S. Super bowl fans want potato chips and dip, the most popular snack at Super Bowl parties.
  • 55% chose pizza.
  • 41% want nachos.
  • 38% are planning sub sandwiches.
  • 37% love barbecue chicken and barbecue ribs.
  • 35% voted for fried finger foods.
  • 32% will be eating burgers.
  • 28% thought vegetables or other (probably healthy) snacks were an option.

Now that adds up to way more than 100%, so I’m guessing no one wants just one snack. So, how do you please your party-going crowd, but still stay sensible? Here are some suggestions …
Super Bowl XLVI

Eat healthy and sensible before and after the party.

  • Don’t go to the party so hungry that you’ll eat everything in site.
  • Eat sensibly the day before and the day after the party. Then, average your calories over the 3 days.
  • Drinking meal replacement shakes the day before and after the party are a smart way to balance out the party food.

Portion control.

  • Use a smaller plate. It’ll look like a plateful with much fewer calories.
  • Eat slowly. Let your brain catch up with your stomach to tell you when you’re full.
  • Snack on fruits and raw veggies. It’ll keep you crunching.
  • Splurge on small portions of the party foods you REALLY love.

Socialize

  • Parties are a great time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.
  • Move around the room, greeting and chatting.
  • Don’t plant yourself at the buffet table where it’s easy to just keep eating.

5 Ways to Reduce Stress During the Holidays

1. Set Realistic Expectations
The Holidays can make anyone frazzled. Find shortcuts to save time and you can spend time doing the things you love. Here are a few ideas . . .

Holiday parties – You don’t need to be the first one at every party and the last one to leave. Arrive fashionably late and leave early enough to get a good night’s sleep.
Cooking – Buy some foods ready to serve or consider a caterer.
Cleaning – Hire someone to clean the house just this once.
Shopping – Shop online and save the driving and standing in line time.

2. Delegate
Even though we like to think we can do it all, it’s more enjoyable to share the work and share the fun.

3. Set a Holiday Budget and Stick to it
You’ll love yourself when the January credit card statements arrive.

4. Act, don’t react
Set the tone, smile and stay possitive. It takes two to tango. Don’t give anyone a reason to argue.

5. Christmas Card Strategy
Buy Christmas cards half price at the after Christmas sale. You’ll have them on hand to address early next year. Sign and address all your cards during the summer. Closer to Thanksgiving, add personal notes. Play Christmas music to set the mood.

And finally . . .
Take a deep breath. It will all be over in a few weeks. But, you’ll always have the memories.

Happy Birthday, Karen

Mom and I were invited to a friend’s 50th birthday party hosted by her daughter. Everyone came in costumes. I’m not fond of costume parties, but I did my best. Mom dressed in black and red and wore a witch’s hat. I wanted her to take my cat, Cookie, as her black cat. Cookie would make a great witch’s cat. Her picture is at the top of the page. But, mom’s not fond of animals, so that was the end of that.

I wore my Shaklee tee shirt and carried a basket of Shaklee products. Every time I set the basket down, someone would add it to the pile of birthday gifts. So, I had to keep retrieving it. It wouldn’t have been much of a gift – The basket was filled with empty vitamin bottles and boxes! Otherwise, it would have been a TERRIFIC gift!

It was a wonderful party with friends I haven’t seen for a long time – and strangers that quickly became friends. And to top it all off, several people asked about Shaklee. It gave me the opportunity to tell them how much the products and the business have done for me.

Where There’s Smoke . . .

We used to have parties. Big parties with lots of friends, good food, drinks and music. The house would be filled with the happy sounds of people having fun – And smoking. How did we ever put up with it?

Then, a strange thing happened at one party. The ashtrays were empty! Finally, all our friends had quit smoking. Maybe the Attorney General’s warning’s had gotten to us. Maybe we just wised up. Whatever it was, it was over. That was years ago. We haven’t had an ashtray in the house since.

What a turn-around . . .
I had gotten to the point of walking out of restaurants if they allowed smoking. Even if they had a “non-smoking section.” Isn’t that like having a no-pee zone in your pool? Eventually we found the restaurants that were smoke free. And now, they all are. So, we’re able to go to any restaurant.

Sometimes, you can tell if a person smokes just by looking at them. Years of smoking ages the skin and deepens the wrinkles. And the smoke lingers in their hair and on their clothes. It probably seeps right thru their skin.

There’s lots of help for smokers who want to quit. The key is “wanting” to quit. Smoking is no longer “cool.” It’s no longer “in.” But, the addiction is the hard part to overcome.
